Abstract
Cranes applications in small places of construction or any other application is an issue because the existing designs are not suitable for such applications. The companies solve the issue by increasing the time of the project contraction which will have a negative effect on the project economically that why a more effective solution must be made. the main aim of this project is to solve the issue of usage of cranes in small areas of constrictions by following the correct design steps and by giving effective solution and this is made through designing the tower carne and then modifying it by a rail to make it movable matrix was performed, and the design scored 507 and this is much higher then the used crane.

1 introduction
cranes are very important unit in the filed of contraction all the constrictions must use the cranes. There is verity of cranes used for constrictions depending on the application of the construction and where and how is it done all these factors effect choosing the appropriate crane type to be used in the construction projects. To illustrate as the contraction are increasing in Qatar number of cranes used in constrictions Is reaching tow thousands and this is considered a huge number and companies do lose a lot when the contraction project is limited with certain area and this forces the companies to bay more cranes to save time, but such a solution decreases the profitability to the constructing company. Such a problem can be solved from a lot of perspectives it may be solved from the economical or from the time planning for the project but in this paper the focus will be solving the problem by making a better crane design for the projects with limitation on the area of work. This is made following a correct design steps and by demonstrating ides of how to apply engineering principles in modifying a good and beneficial. For such a way o solving the problem there are companies who are providing designs that may be suitable for some of the small applications for example MICROCRANES company is providing a crane with a small size and they are multi-functional cranes that lift, shift install and maintain things. The presence of such designs helped in tracking the issues, weakness and limitation in the design of the company and this was a starting point for the design team for making a better design. The design team which is Consists of four engineers made a literature review about the case and the resulted design was made based on knowledge.

2 types of cranes
There are Variety of cranes made for designed and manufactured based on the needed application, in this section different type of cranes will be shown
Tower crane
Tower crane is used for applications which needs lifting to high distances and for heavy lifting. see figure 2.0

Mini crane
Such type is used for application which has very light lifting and shifting. See figure 2.1

Lattice boom crawler cranes
High reliability more effective then tower crane in terms of cost for big applications also easy to operate. See figure 2.2

Marine crane
Marine crane is made for marine applications like shifting small boats and it is also used in the shipping ship. See figure 2.3

Aerial man left
This crane is for construction use and maintenance which need small equipment and human to be shifted and it is easy to transport also it is very likely to be an elevator. See figure 2.4

3 design objective
With all existing design there will always be a place for a new design to be made and t be effective, and this mainly depend on the need so if there is a need so then following the problem a good design can be achieved. In this project the need is that for construction applications in limited area of work and contraction there are always issues regarding installing the cranes to be used spatiality the cranes which are used for heavy load in small places applications, so the objective is to find a good design that sole this issue.
4- the used crane
In the situation of limited area, they used crane is the tower crane is very difficult to install and it needs time to Prepare and operate and it need big space for the carried load in the flower to stabilize the crane that’s why its efficiency in small places decrees. Furthermore, Lattice boom crawler cranes is also used but it has limitation on the load that it can carry, and it also needs a relatively big pace to install.
5- steps of design
5.1 – (Identify the need and define the problem)
in the limited places of construction, the area is small and that’s why big cranes cases many problems in installing and in shifting during the work, as a result there is a need for a solution that can be suitable with such application.

5.2- (design team)
For such a project to be made a group of professional engineers and marketing people should be selected to insure project will benefit and the work is made in correct manner.
Mechanical engineers are needed for the load calculation and for designing the rotational parts
Manufacturing engineers are needed for the machinery work and for Manufacturing the parts.
Sell man and marketing to ensure that companies will know about the project.

5.3- (Identify constrains and criteria of success)
In this project the constrains are mainly the safety and reliability and price and there is more constrains like making Convenience design and making it Environmentally
Friendly, Durability and Serviceability and the next table will give a deeper look into the properties of movable crane.

5.4 (Searching for solutions)
After wide literate review from all team members the team to decided to be make the rail crane a solution and then this will be compared with tower crane which is used now. The comparison will be made in a matrix to see the best.

5.6 rail crane
3465576-1752For the rail crane tower crane will be modified by adding wheels and rail to make the movement easier. See figure 5.4
Also, if there are any barriers that well restrict the movement of the crane an idea was to make a wave rail to fade the barrier, the design team took care of two main cases the first case if the barrier is from two sides and the way rail will look like is shown in figure (5.5) and the other case 2 when there a need of rounding

Based on the tower design the new design was decided to be a rail crane because of many points which shown below as it is mentioned in the problem statement that the area limitation is serious issue for many of the construction companies tower crane will do the job, but it is considered to be low efficient in this case because it Will be fill large area and if a
company needs the crane in more than one place then this is the real problem. Rail crane is very powerful idea as it will solve the problem by making the tower crane movable and this is good because it will reduce number of tower cranes and also sometimes the tower crane is removed from one side and installed in other sides which will take a lot of time and effort.

6 (Feasibility study) Analyze each potential solution
After giving the new idea and making the initial design there has to be criteria to know if the design is better then the used crane (tower crane) and for that matrix should be used to evaluate the points which were defined in the properties
6.1 properties for both design
Safety: for safety tower crane is considered safer as it will be more stable in the ground, but this does not mean that the rail is unsafe but always if the object is under motion risk will increase.
Reliability : the rail crane is more reliable for the project case as it has the option of movement and it can reduce the amount of cranes needed because it can function in a place the after finishing it will move and function in another place and as mentioned above it is design in the base of the tower crane and this is means it can shift the same weight, and also in terms of the height that it can reach both are the same.
Price: the price of the rail should be little higher but when cost analyze is done the rail is way better because no need to bay the same amount of tower crane for the same project. Furthermore, if the company is limited with money the rail will be much favorable because one will make the job but for tower removing and installing will cost more in terms of operational cost and will take longer time.
Convenience design: both designs are considered to be convinces.
Environmentally friendly: in the case of the both designs there is no major effect on the environment.
Durability: It is very durable because it manufactured for long termed life and they are made for that
Serviceability: the rail scores higher as It dos not has to much dismantling for the parts which is not the case for the tower crane.

7 Choose the Best solution
After the matrix is done one can see the benefit the new design of the rail for moving the crane as it scored 507 against the tower with a score of 417. Using the rail crane will increase the efficiency of cranes that are used in the project which is limited to place, and this means increasing the overall efficiency

8 Conclusion
To conclude the rail crane is considered to be a solution for using the crane in construction in projects which is limited to certain area. This was made in the base of the steps of design to get a good design that can be applied to real life. As a result, the design will be presented to the managements so get the benefit of It to reach up to this point literature review was made and design for the base case crane used in the real life application (tower crane and they knew design rail crane.
