Although Paris does exhibit his strong passion for Juliet

Although Paris does exhibit his strong passion for Juliet, I do not believe that he is truly
in love with her. “Love” is a strong word, and I believe that instead of being in love with her,
he was a bit “persistent”, maybe even a bit obsessive, with her. In act 1 scene 2, Paris is seen
asking Capulet for Juliet’s hand in marriage. A piece of evidence that Paris wasn’t in love
with Juliet that can be seen here is that he didn’t seem to take in Juliet’s opinion. If Paris was
really in love with Juliet, then he would have thought about her situation and how young and
inexperienced she was, not just trying to convince Capulet. This also shows his “persistent
streak” as he is so intent on marrying Juliet. Therefore, although Paris does seem to have a
passion for Juliet, what he feels may be closer to a desire rather than love.
