Brave New World characters have mixed emotions on what happiness and truth means to them and how they deal with it in their relationships and in the real world of life. In the book Brave New World truth is more important than happiness because in the world people have relationships that usually want happiness but can never be truthful. John the savage really shows being truthful and not just truth but also happiness. Friendships usually want to have both truth and happiness but always ends up with one or the other. The characters do anything to avoid facing the truth about many of the situations between each other.
The universal happiness is the key to stability but by “eliminating all things that can possibly harm or lead to unhappiness the society is deprived of the truth ultimately leading to a life of stability of happiness”. For the characters to have both happiness and truth they have to have trust for each other and believe what they say but happiness could always change a persons way of how they feel towards that person. “You’ve got to choose between happiness and what people used to call high art. We’ve sacrificed the high art.” In the story Bernard talks to Lenina about his his thoughts of freedom but Lenina tells him that truth is the answer and why he shouldn’t have happiness with the dreadful ideas that he’s thinking about. Mustapha Mond thinks having happiness refers to the desire of having food, sex, drugs and nice clothes makes happiness more important because of the things you could have in life could make happiness spread threw out everyone. Monds point to having truth is no where a person should think of and have.
