Have you listened to the children?
Have you listened to them scream?
It resonates through the halls of schools
That are now declared as crime scenes
Have you looked at the children?
Can’t you see them bleed?
Can’t you see their parents yearning for them in each and every dream?
Remembering the gunshots
The bullets that left them distraught
When the news headlines have vanished
And they’re left alone with their thoughts,
The silent streets
And the emptiness that just won’t leave, it just wont leave
So they count the minutes, hours, days, nights and weeks
Trying to cope with pain so deep
It stirs inside of sleep
And in the morning they remember
Their lost child
With tears gushing down their cheeks
Gasping for air between their silent cries
It’s impossible to breathe
And at that point it doesn’t matter
What you once thought or believed
It’s too late to change the past
But there’s still time to save the future
We can stand hand in hand
And obliterate this cycle
Once and for all
Break the chain. Break the cycle. Break the silence.
And help us end this violence
