I.Globally, English has been acknowledged as the most dominating language of the worlds which is having its impact on every field of work.
A.Undoubtedly, English play a much greater role in the world that it is inevitable for people to ignore it fully.
B.However, with nowadays performance, it is a challenging for students in Malaysia to compete internationally.
AI.I have done some research on this issue and this is worth to share with my classmates.
A.Statistically, out of 44 countries, Malaysia ranked at 9th for English proficiency of non-native English speakers in 2009.
B.However, in 2018 the ranking is dropped from 13th last year to 22nd this year.
BI.So that is why we should change our mindset about English is not that crucial in our daily lives.
A. The importance of English cannot be denied anymore and we must show our interest in learning and practicing the language.
1.As the most spoken language in the world, English is playing a major role in many fields like education and business.
2.People especially teenagers nowadays tend to ignore to learn the language and that makes them unaware of the importance of English.
3.Sometimes, people avoid using English in most conversations because they afraid and ashamed of being judged in terms of grammar and sentences.
IV. So today, I would like to persuade each and everyone of you here to start speaking in English more frequently and strengthen our vocabulary to prepare ourselves to be more confident to face the outside world especially when we start to work in the future.
I.Well ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you reasons we need to learn English.
A.Learning English can open more job opportunities for us.
1. The interviewer will surely converse with us in English when we go for a job interview. Fluently respond in English will make a great impression towards us. But, remember do not stutter.
2.The fact is, job demands it.
a.According to The Star Online, people who are proficient in English, for instance, teachers are being pinched and offered high salaries especially in international schools.
b.The shortage of good English teachers nowadays is the reason international schools willingly to pay their staff handsomely.
c.Hence, not only teachers, everyone who masters the language will have a job awaiting.
B.English can increase the economy in Malaysia.
1.Indicators like Gross National Income (GNI) and GDP go up when English skills in population risen.
a.In the latest edition of the EF English Proficiency Index (EF EPI), stated that a rise in English proficiency is connected with the rise in per capita income and the improvement in English skills that drive up salaries, which in turn give governments and individuals more money to invest in language training.
2.Boost the quality of life.
a.If the English proficiency increase, the Human Development Index, a measure of education, life expectancy, literacy, and standards of living also increase.
AI.There are several ways we can do to strengthen our English.
A.Firstly, find the right learning tools for us.
1.It is essential to find learning activities that suits us. If an activity is far too difficult, it can be demoralizing. However, if you stay in your comfort zone, your progress will be slower.
2.You can check your level of English proficiency by doing a short, multiple-choice test. Then, choose the right practice activities at your target level.
b.The unique search function allows you to practice English how and when you choose by selecting the skill, the level and the amount of time you have.
B.Getting the pronunciation right.
1.Getting the pronunciation right is something that many international students worry about, but people that born in English-speaking countries usually do not care about the pronunciation because for them, the messages that people trying to deliver is matter the most. After all, pronouncing the words you use correctly makes you look far more intelligent.
a.The first step in improving pronunciation is to slow down your speech a little and think a bit more carefully before you speak. Pay attention to consonants, particularly at the end of words (as these are often missed off in speech), and make sure sounds like “sh” and “th” come out properly.
2.Another good way to improve pronunciation is to watch English movies where you can hear and see the characters speak with the right pronunciation.
BI.Well, what will happen in the future if we we do not strengthen our English?
A.First of all we will need to translate any works out there because we cannot understand any words written on it.
1.Most of papers and works are published in English. So, if we cannot understand the most of the words. In result, we will not be able to do any researches or even assignments.
B.Secondly, we might feel culturally isolated.
1.Language gives us insight of a new culture. By learning English, we start to experience details about a region of the world that we never knew existed when we go travel.
I.As a conclusion learning English is vital to our lives.
AI.We can experience new culture around the world without worrying language barrier especially when we go travel.
BI.Learning English can rise the job opportunities and economy as well as living in a much better environment.
IV. So to achieve this target we should raise our awareness on learning English.
V.We should take this seriously. Start speaking English now with your classmates, roommates and lecturers. Do not afraid to speak in front of public. Do not bother on getting a right grammar because the messages that we trying to deliver is matter the most.
