The government introduced information technology act in order to give due attention to the increasing cybercrimes in our country. The act was first introduced in 1991 and the latest revised one was introduced in 2008. The IT act was introduced to promote IT industry, facilitate e governance, regulate ecommerce and prevent cybercrime. The act has provided Indian government with the power of surveillance, monitoring and blocking data traffic. The new powers under the amendment act tend to give Indian government a texture and color of being a surveillance state. These act contains various cyber laws that protects a person against the abuse of computers and various cybercrimes and provides a legal recognition to E transactions.
Apart from introducing the acts and making cyber laws, government has various other responsibility towards cyber security. Some of them are as follows:
? Ensuring that the cyber security policies encompass the needs of all citizens of the society not just the central government facilities
? Creating awareness and supporting end-user education as this benefits not only the individual user and system but reduces the numbers of unprotected computers that are available for hijacking by criminals and then used to mount attacks.

? Signing of various conventions and other potential international treaties relating to cyber security
