In the current world, it is an undeniable fact that there are various problems in the life of people. One of the major issues is homelessness. Homelessness is a social problem that refers to the people without personal house and shelter. Homelessness takes place for several different reasons such as addicted to drug and alcohol, mental illness, disputes and family conflicts. Furthermore, homelessness is quickly increasing due to several reasons and most of the governments suffer from homelessness. Canadian observatory on homelessness research paper in 2016 found that an estimated 35 people are homeless on a given night and at least 235,000 become homeless annually. Another approximately 50,000 people are precariously housed, sometimes residing on a spare couch at family or friends’ house (Gaetz, 2010; Gaetz, Gulliver ; Richter, 2014). When we consider homelessness, it can be said that there are three solutions such as insufficient money, supplying of houses and volunteering activities.
The most significant solution is about insufficient money. Needless to say, that money is an important element in the life of people. People also need money during their life. Hence, homelessness is a complex social problem which is caused by weak economic situations. For instance, due to fact that people earn inadequate money, they do not pay their mortgage. Therefore, they might become homeless. Furthermore, it is not only young people can become homeless but also elderly people can become homeless. Canada suffers from an enormous problem of homelessness due to the fact that the rapidly increasing population and lack of employment lead to homelessness in Canada. According to a homeless hub research article containing information on the past 25 years, the population of Canada has been risen by approximately 30%, whereas annual national investment rate had been declined by over 46%. (Gaetz, Gulliver, ; Richter, 2016). When people do not pay their mortgage, the government can help them. Nevertheless, when they are unemployment, the government can lend them money by getting a job. There is a strong relationship between inadequate money and supplying of the house.
The second solving problem is about supplying of houses. It goes without saying that house has various benefit in the life of people such as sleeping well, protection of cold. Moreover, the shelter is most important for safety and personal space. When people are homeless, they need to protect themselves in order to survive. If they have shelter, it can be easy to survive. The Canadian government can prepare a shelter for them if they do not have a house. Likewise, housing programs could help to solve Canada’s homelessness issues, especially given what the past tells us about the nature of this problem in Canada. A profound increase in homelessness began in the 1980s when the Canadian Government decided to reduce spending on relevant concessions and social support ( Dej, Richter, Redm, & Gaetz, 2016). Due to the fact that does not regulate the lack of affordable homes is the second principal reason why homelessness is on the rise in Canada. An article mentions that in the last 20 years 100,000 housing units have not been built because of the cancellation of funding programs for affordable housing. (Gaetz, Gulliver, & Richter, 2014, p. 5) Additional regulations and supervision of housing market changes can help decrease the price of a home in Canada. According to Torry (2016), ”The housing market crisis is so serious, in fact, that a recent publication indicated the following 1,5 million Canadians can’t find safe, decent housing they can afford” (Torry & Iveson,2016).
The third solving problem is about volunteering activities. Volunteering activities may also help solve the problem of homelessness. Most the homeless people strongly require shelter and basic human requirement. They can obtain basic human requirement via volunteer. Likewise, There are several ways homeless people can help as a volunteer. For example, After classifying depending on their interests and the skill, they can work as a volunteer. Therefore they can get used to current life.
Taking into account the way to this issue, it can be said that homelessness has several viable solutions. homelessness is a global issue, but in Canada increasing populations, extremely housing, and residential costs and lack of educational problem lead to homelessness. Regulation house market and supporting people about mortgage and supporting sufficient income enable homelessness to decrease. Furthermore, it is helpful to donate to charities who offer help or to give people shelter, more needs to be done.
