The movie “Get Out” relates to slavery in many different ways. Racism is a big part of the movie. For example, early in the movie, there is a scene where Rose’s mother named Missy was introduced, which is a common name for a mistress of holding slaves. Another example of racism focuses on police brutality towards African American’s. Police Brutality has been a very controversial topic when it comes to African American’s and it plays a part in the movie because there is a scene in the movie where there were police officers were getting attacked. The movie is also related events that happen in modern society. The Black Lives Matter campaign is an example of how it relates to slavery. The Black Lives Matter campaign focuses on reducing discrimination and advocating for racial equality and also to spread the word around racial equality in the United States. This movement also protests and rallies throughout America. 2017 was a year of opposing viewpoints around the treatment of African Americans. The movie “Get Out” came out in 2017, which was the year that both racism and discrimination of African Americans was being discussed a lot. The movie brought refined racism and caused it to become a larger topic of debate as well as forcing people to question themselves if they too contributed to American Racism.
