The word” ekklesia” literally means “called out” or “called forth” this word commonly used to indicate a group of individuals called to gather for some function in a particular assembly of the citizens of the city. As in acts 19:32-41, in the New Testament the term refers to the Christianchurch as a particular local group or the whole body of the faithful (Bayley, 1991:7).
The meaning of the church also, was given by Luther in his designation of the church as a congregatio fidelium.to mean that the church can be defined as an assembly of faithful (King, 1985, p. 242),
As it was quoted by Hodgson and King in the book called “Readings in Christian theology”, Schleiermacher defines the Church as the fellowship of believers (Hodgson &King,1985:247), fellowship means friendship of people who are living in the same local place sharing what they have, communicating each other and having love each others, from this a researcher sees that to say fellowship of believers is the same as to say Christian church, both expressions are equivalent, this means that Schleiermacher take the church as the people who accept Jesus Christ.
Christ is the head of the church, the church is governed by the spirit of Christ, as we have seen that the church is the community of people who accept Jesus Christ and who are living friendly, Jesus as the head of the church is very important to the life of Christians because he is the mediator and intercessor of believers to the God father, Christ is also, the savior of the church (the savior of people who are believing and accept Jesus Christ)Ephesians. 5:23.Christ is the head over all things in the church, so we are to grow up in every way into Christ who is the head ,from whom the whole body joined and knit together makes bodily growth eph.4:15, and outside of Christ there is no salvation (King, 1985, pp. 245-246)
A researcher says that the church is the assembly of all faithful called or gathered as a communion of saints, namely those who truly know God, those who are living friendly sharing the word of God and sacraments because sharing the sacrament(Eucharist for example) believers are sharing the body of Christ, as Ambrose explained about how the bread becomes the flesh of Christ through consecration (Ambrose, 1985),those who truly know Jesus Christ as the head and the savior of the church
2.1.2. The Presbyterian Church
In 16thcentury occurred the religious movement known as protestant reformation which was led by Martin Luther, John Calvin,John Knox, Zwingli, and Cranmer, From that Reformation the main four denominations which are Lutheran, Reformed or Presbyterian, the Anglican, and the Anabaptist was born (Hayes,1978:4). therefore, Presbyterian or reformed church was born due to that reformation, its founder are a French man called John Calvin and a Scott man called John Knox (Gatwa, 2015, p. 83).
This protestant denomination took the name “Presbyterian church” this name shows how the denomination is, how it live, how it works and how is governed(E.P.R, 2013, p. 13), we say this by referring to the meaning of Presbyterian as it is derived from the Greek word “???????????, ?, ??” means amature man having seasoned judgment (experience) or anelder.
the church has Presbyterianism government where the mature people who have the experiences seat together setting the lines of how to govern the church, this method of government was elaborated by John Knox (Gatwa, 2015, p. 83),after being consulted by the pastor, the elders were appointed by the councils of the city government (Chadwick, 1965, p. 84),
As how Hayes said it, one of the Presbyterian duties is to evangelize people because Presbyterian Church is an evangelical church, to evangelize means to carrygood news to the people of course to talk about Jesus Christ about his life, about his teachings, about his death and his resurrection (Hayes, 1978:3). It is clear that if the elders are in c
